Profile

Two gears: a sharp summary up top, and the long arc beneath.

Short bio

Jym Equalizer is a London-forged architect of experience, weaving 35 years of underground culture, production craft, and digital invention into live, unrepeatable sets. Since 1991 he has moved through psytrance’s origins, large-scale stage worlds, and conscious dance spaces with one guiding intention: to build “wombs” of creativity, inspiration, and connection.

His sound is a seamless flow between psytech and progressive drive, and the deeper, mindful excursions of ethno-chill, psydub, ambient, and late-night medicine. Using layered sampling and real-time overlays, Jym’s sets land as a “moment of now” that can’t be replicated, only witnessed.

Full story

The foundations: from Heaven to the birth of psytrance

The journey began with the tribal resonance of Whirl-Y-Gig, then accelerated at the legendary Heaven in Charing Cross. Starting as a steward for Megatripolis, Jym’s aptitude for the mechanics of magic saw him promoted to Lighting Technician. By 1996 he was painting the cosmos as a scenic artist for Escape from Samsara at The Fridge, transforming balconies and ceilings into vast psychedelic landscapes.

The alchemist of the scrap: from roady to founding frog

Rooted in the Karma Yoga of the industry, Jym served with Stage Miracles, Show Stars, and Crew Co., learning production from every angle. His portfolio from that era spans set builds and major productions including The Titanic movie and EastEnders’ Albert Square, and managing production for the Sky Digital TV Launch Party at Battersea Power Station.

A pantheon of legends, and the tribe

His technical craft supported major artists and award shows, while he always returned his skills to the tribe, working with acts like Zion Train, Ozric Tentacles, and System 7. Recognizing the waste in mainstream production, he salvaged “discarded” materials to birth Liquid Decor and Synergy Chill-outs, helping shape the visual language of underground spaces.

The evolution: digital frontiers and Camden alchemists

In 2000, Jym pivoted into the digital realm, mastering HTML and Flash 5 on a Windows 95 PC. By 2002 he returned to Camden Lock, launching Camden Ethnobotanicals and building an immersive design lineage that later brought him into interior architecture, including work on Camden’s £56m ShakaZulu project.

Resilience and the return to the earth

Always a pioneer, Jym launched Blootrax Radio in 2009, early in the online psytrance broadcast wave. In 2012 he returned to Boom Festival, sculpting clay and carving faces into The Gardens, his lapis-blue mineral paint cutting through Boom Land’s greens. The journey culminated in Portugal with The Breathe Gathering (May 2024), a “small festival, big infrastructure” success for 200 smiling souls.

Breathe Music: the current chapter

When weather and circumstance forced the cancellation of The Breathe Teaser (September 2025), Jym transmuted the momentum into the Breathe Connective ecosystem. Today, he brings the same precision and soul to Breathe Music Records: dancefloor craft with an organic root system, built for the next generation of pioneers.
